DAISY Award Winner: Candace Poppe
Candace Poppe, an RN at UnityPoint Health – Marshalltown, has been named the recipient of the prestigious DAISY Award.
Poppe was nominated by the daughter of a 95-year-old patient following hip surgery. The family member praised Poppe's ability to show tenderness, attentiveness and compassion in every interaction.
"Candace has a gentle and quiet spirit that draws both patients and their families," said Jen Arneson, RN and hospital manager at UnityPoint Health – Marshalltown. "She can always be counted on to provide empathetic, compassionate care. I can't think of anyone more deserving of this prestigious award."
"It means so much to me to have won this award," said Poppe. "I was so very honored and humbled. I'm not one to seek recognition for myself, but it feels good to know that I have made a difference to this patient and her family."
The award was established in 2000 to recognize the clinical skills, extraordinary compassion and care exhibited by nurses every day. It is given monthly to outstanding nurses in more than 2,300 healthcare facilities throughout all 50 states and 15 countries.
"On my drive into work in the mornings, I pray that God will help me to be a blessing to my patients and my co-workers and to help me be the best nurse that I can be," Poppe said. "I am grateful to be working alongside a lot of very wonderful and experienced nurses who inspire me daily."
