Jamal's Story | Child & Adolescent Psychiatry
Children Struggling With Mental Illness Often Go Unseen
Imagine having a child who is so troubled that their life is at risk, without hope for professional support. No family should be turned away at their most desperate moment due to lack of space.
Fact: During the school year, up to 26 kids a day are on our waitlist.
This Needs to Change
There is an unprecedented need for children's mental health services in our community at UnityPoint Health – Meriter Child & Adolescent Psychiatry (CAP). We are expanding our facilities to reach more children in need and begin providing new day-treatment services while maintaining our unique family-centered approach.
Help Us Say Yes
To do this, we need your support. Help us say yes to more kids who desperately need mental health care. Donate today.
Although Jamal is only 7 years old, he has been exposed to things nobody should see: drug abuse, neglect and family abuse. Lashing out at the world, he struck his grandmother, broke a car window and ran away. He feels alone. He is scared and angry. CAP helps children like Jamal learn coping skills and techniques to overcome traumatic experiences.
