Grinnell College makes Impactful Gift to GRMC Foundation

In commitment to partnering with local organizations, Grinnell College has donated $31,500 to the UnityPoint Health - Grinnell Regional Medical Center Foundation to strengthen community health care resources.

This gift will impact both the obstetrics and emergency departments. New lighting will be purchased to replace existing fixtures in the obstetrics unit, allowing UnityPoint Health® – Grinnell Regional Medical Center (GRMC) to fully utilize all labor and delivery rooms. These rooms are designed with specialized ceiling lights. The direction and intensity of these lights can be adjusted to help providers maintain proper illumination during delivery and the immediate post-partum period.

“Having adequate lighting is extremely important during the delivery process,” says Ryan Dahlby Albright, MD and obstetrics committee chair. “This donation from Grinnell College and the installation of new lights in the obstetrics unit will enable physicians to provide safer and better obstetric care to our community.”

Two patient transport carts will be added to the emergency department. These new carts are equipped with a built-in scale and electronic controls to raise and lower the bed to provide maximum convenience and relief. Designed with patient comfort and care in mind, these carts have a thicker mattress to help patients feel secure and steady as they are transported between rooms for different tests and treatments.

“Grinnell College appreciates the services GRMC provides right here in Grinnell,” say Monica Chavez-Silva, assistant vice president for community enhancement. “In particular, we understand obstetrics and emergency care are vital services that contribute to the quality of life for residents in our area and that these are also services potential residents consider as they are deciding whether to call Grinnell home. For that reason, we are glad to be able to help purchase this important equipment for use at our local medical center.”

The purpose of the Foundation is to enhance philanthropic activities to ensure the GRMC mission of improving the health of the people and communities it serves. The Foundation informs and educates donors and the local communities regarding the work of GRMC while providing encouragement and opportunities to support the medical center’s mission.
