UnityPoint Health® - Grinnell Regional Public Health offers a variety of services to promote and protect the health of the community. Grinnell Regional Public Health is dedicated to caring for the needs of our most vulnerable populations in Poweshiek County.

The core responsibilities for public health are to: provide education and services to promote and enhance healthy lifestyles; prevent disease outbreaks; assist with access to health care services; and collaborate with community partners.

“Working in public health is truly a rewarding and humbling experience,” says Shauna Callaway, director of public health at UnityPoint Health – Grinnell. “To provide care to those who need it most in our communities, regardless of their circumstances, makes it fulfilling to come to work each day.”

Grinnell Regional Public Health offers a variety of care services and clinics including adult and child immunizations, a medical equipment loan program, tools and programming to support healthy choices and specialty clinics which include foot care and blood pressure screenings.

They also provide an assortment of resources that focus on mom and baby health. The Women, Infant, Children (WIC) Nutrition service comes to Grinnell Regional Public Health the third and fourth Tuesday of each month. In the Maternal Health Program, a public health team member can assist moms with choosing and obtaining a physician, getting prenatal education and assist in obtaining appropriate payment sources if needed. The Grinnell Babies Room Program also provides incentives and educational opportunities for women who are pregnant or have a child under the age of three.

“Our goal with the mom and baby health programs is to provide support for women to care for themselves and have the education and resources they need to raise healthy children,” says Crystal VandeKamp, RN, CLC, public health nurse and lactation counselor.
