Braelynn was born at UnityPoint Health – Trinity Regional Medical Center on October 25, 2020 weighing 7 pounds, 2 ounces, and measured 18 inches long. Mom, Mercedes, shares a little about Braelynn’s arrival below.
Birth Story: A mom to six children, Mercedes, knew the drill when it came time to head to the hospital.
“I started having contractions early Sunday morning around 6 a.m. and I knew it was time to go to the hospital,” she shares. “We arrived around 7 a.m. and I went from being three centimeters dilated to six to nine really, really fast.”
While Mercedes didn’t have a formal birth plan, she was comforted by her care team’s support and enjoyed her nurse’s sense of humor to get her through some uncomfortable contractions.
Not even two hours from arriving at the hospital, Braelynn was born making her the 400th baby born at Trinity Birth Center this year.
“The nurses congratulated us and then told me she was the 400th baby which was fun,” Mercedes shares.
Happy to finally meet their baby girl, Mercedes reflects on what made this labor and delivery different from her other children.
“This was my first time delivering at Trinity and I was so happy with the care I received,” she states. “I liked all my nurses. They were always on top of everything and my care was very good. I really liked it here.”
What was it like delivering during a pandemic? It was a little scary at first, but I felt safe when I got to the hospital. Everyone wears their masks and other PPE and I know they are screening everyone.
Favorite Nurse: I liked all of them!
Favorite Doctor: I had received prenatal care at two other hospitals and was really happy with the care I received from Dr. Olson.
Pediatrician/Doctor for Baby: We still haven’t decided on who Braelynn will go to for her pediatrician, but I really like the Blank Children’s Hospital provider who has rounded on her in the hospital.
