The Board of Directors of UnityPoint Health has named Mike Dewerff as President and CEO for the Fort Dodge region, effective June 10, 2015.
“Over the last five years, Mike has worked closely with Sue Thompson and has provided strong leadership and support for UnityPoint Health – Fort Dodge. As a part of the Board’s strategic planning and on-going succession planning process Mike was identified as the organization’s next CEO. His leadership and vision along with his dedication to ensuring we provide the best health care services possible to our community and surrounding area are impressive and we look forward to continued success under his direction,” stated John Taets, UnityPoint Health – Fort Dodge, Board Chair.
Dewerff is currently the President and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for UnityPoint Health in Fort Dodge, Iowa, which includes Trinity Regional Medical Center, UnityPoint Clinic, Berryhill Center, and UnityPoint at Home. Prior to joining UnityPoint Health, Dewerff was the CFO at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake, Iowa for 10 years. He has worked in healthcare administration since 1991.

He is originally from Fargo, N.D., earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Minnesota State University – Moorhead, and an MBA from Wayne State College. Dewerff is currently a National Board of Director with Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA).

Dewerff replaces Sue Thompson, who served as President and CEO for UnityPoint Health – Fort Dodge for six years. Thompson will transition into a new role as Senior Vice President, Integration and Optimization for the system as a whole. She was recently appointed to the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPAC) by the U.S. Government Accountability Office. Thompson will serve an initial three-year term in that role, and was the only new commission member selected, as well as the only Iowan ever appointed to MedPAC.
