When 78-year-old Earlville resident Vincent Herman was diagnosed with stage 1 lung cancer, neither he nor his family thought much of the recommended treatment -- removal of half of his right lung. So Vincent and wife, Betty, came to the Wendt Regional Cancer Center for a second opinion. There they met with Radiation Oncologist Bobby Koneru, M.D.

Turns out Dr. Koneru was exactly the right man for the job.

Before coming to Finley, Dr Koneru was at Northwestern Memorial Medical Center in Chicago, where he specialized in the treatment for lung, spine and brain cancer with a technology called Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT).

SBRT uses high precision, high dose radiation with advanced immobilization techniques. This state of the art technology has been proven to deliver powerful results and requires an experienced physician to ensure successful results.

SBRT uses a series of markers and an advanced coordinate system to precisely locate the tumor and deliver concentrated, highly focused radiation to the tumor site. Just as important, the technology requires an experienced clinician at the controls to insure a successful treatment.
Now, almost two years after his diagnosis, Vincent is cancer-free and pleased with his choice of health care provider.

"Dr. Koneru is a great doctor," Vincent says. "He knows what he's doing and gives direct answers to direct questions. I like that."
