Not only was Becky Reistroffer, RN,  nominated as a Caring Heart award winner, she was recognized by her department leader for truly being a role model of our values in how she cared for two additional patients in particular.

Becky is a nurse in UnityPoint Health – Finley Hospital’s Babka Outpatient Center. Becky cares for patients who are prepping for surgery or continuing to recover after surgery. She cares for patients who are receiving surgical services for a variety of different health needs. Lisa Sullwold, BSHA/HM, RN, CNOR, Executive Director of Surgical Services at Finley, says Reistroffer goes above and beyond her responsibilities as a nurse.

In one example, Sullwold explains, “Not only did Becky take great care of her patient, but while the patient was in surgery, she took the patient’s husband to the cafeteria to get lunch.” While that was certainly Owning the Moment, she also Championed Excellence by eating lunch with the patient’s husband. “The compassion Becky showed made the patient feel better knowing that her husband was also taken care of,” says Sullwold.

Yet another patient explained that while he was uneasy about the idea of getting  a catheter placed for surgery, Becky inserted the catheter with kindness, understanding and knowledge – “with such gentleness and care that I hardly knew she was doing it!” The patient describes her as an angel.

And last, but not least, a co-worker nominated Becky for the Caring Heart award after a recent miscarriage. The nominator says, “My day started out at 5:00 am as a pregnant patient in the ER with my husband.  This was our first pregnancy.  The day ended with a procedure to remove remaining fetal tissue. Becky made a very emotionally and physically painful moment in our lives, one that I am so proud to say that I work at a hospital with such an amazing, loving, and caring person.”

Thank you, Becky, for modeling our values on every level. You’ve truly demonstrated what it means to Own the Moment, Champion Excellence and Seize the Opportunity.
