UnityPoint Health – Finley Hospital announces a new Oncology Rehabilitation service to its Wendt Regional Cancer Center and Outpatient Therapy Services. Oncology Rehabilitation provides individualized care with the goal of improving daily function and quality of life for every patient facing a cancer diagnosis.
Our certified oncology rehabilitation therapist Kim Lamey, DPT has been certified by the Physiological Oncology Rehabilitation Institute (PORi) in Denver, Colorado. Kim is the first PORi-certified therapist in the state of Iowa who specializes in chemotoxicity and exercise prescription. She is uniquely qualified to treat a variety of conditions related to cancer during any phase of diagnosis and treatment.
Through Oncology Rehab, Kim and her patients can address current symptoms and minimize the development of long term issues including:
- Restricted range of motion
- Joint stiffness
- Cancer-related fatigue
- Decline in balance
- Pelvic floor dysfunction
- Difficulty walking
- Chemo-induced peripheral neuropathy (numbness/tingling)
- Scar restrictions/fibrosis
- Neck and jaw mobility
- Decreased endurance for daily tasks
- Other areas related to the diagnosis
“I am so excited to be able to offer Oncology Rehab right here in Dubuque,” said Kim Lamey, DPT. “This program is going to allow people in our community who are faced with a cancer diagnosis to manage their conditions at any stage in their cancer journey. Before and during active treatment, and years into survivorship, we can help each patient improve daily function and reach their fullest potential.”
