Why do you choose to volunteer at UnityPoint Health -  Finley Hospital?

My wife Sherry has been a volunteer at Finley for years. She mentioned that they were looking for help in the Surgical Waiting area and she felt that this would be a good fit for me.

What is your most memorable volunteer experience at Finley?

I have many good memories of visiting with patients and family members. I can’t think of one that stands out above the rest.

What do you find most rewarding about your volunteer assignment?

The favorite part of volunteering in Surgical Waiting at Finley is being able to talk with the patients and family members.  It is a different experience every day. I just try to be there for them.

Who or what motivates you to volunteer?

Coming to Finley keeps me going and I enjoy the socialization. This gets me out of the house and around other people. I think that is important at my age.

What do you do outside of volunteering at Finley (career, hobbies, interests, etc?)

When I am not taking care of family or volunteering at Finley, I volunteer my time at Bell Tower Theater and the Mississippi River Museum.
