Finley Expansion to Improve Heart, Surgical and Emergency Care
UnityPoint Health - Finley Hospital has announced plans for a major expansion that will consolidate and enhance the hospital’s heart care, surgery and emergency capabilities. The proposed 70,000 square-foot, three-story expansion will be constructed on the northwest side of the hospital near Grandview Ave. Construction on the $42 million dollar expansion is set to be completed December 2015.
“The benefit of this expansion to the tri-state community is the opportunity to provide healthcare in a state-of-the-art emergency care facility situated steps from a cohesive heart and vascular center as well as the most technologically advanced surgical suites in the area,” said David Brandon, UnityPoint Health - Finley Hospital President and CEO. “Meeting the health needs of our community, whether emergent or through coordinated planning with a physician, is the focus of this expansion, which is one of the largest in Finley and Dubuque history.”
Finley’s new 21,000 square-foot Heart and Vascular Center is designed specifically to offer patients and their family’s greater convenience and efficiency. The Heart Center will consolidate all heart care services into one Heart Center, which includes diagnostic cardiology services, cardiac catheterization labs, cardiac rehabilitation and educational facilities. Space is planned for one fully equipped cardiac catheterization lab, expanded vascular capabilities, diagnostic testing, gym and education facilities for on-going patient support and prevention information and an expanded cardiopulmonary rehabilitation area with specialized equipment. UnityPoint Clinic Cardiologist, Dr.Tauseef Khan’s clinic will be located in the Heart Center. This office space includes eight exam rooms and offices to accommodate up to four doctors.
Finley’s new Surgery Department will be located on the second floor and will feature expanded surgical suites to accommodate the most advanced surgical equipment such as the daVinci Surgical Robot. The department will have 8 state-of-the-art surgical suites and three additional rooms customized for Cystoscopies, Endoscopies and Eye Laser procedures. A special feature in the Surgery Department is the use of natural lighting in the surgical corridors to create more comfortable surroundings. Plans are also in place to begin remodeling the Babka Ambulatory Surgery area beginning in 2015.
Emergency Room (ER) services will have 16 treatment rooms including two advanced trauma rooms. The current ER design is undersized and the functionality of the space is more than 36 years old. The new ER will have a more efficient work and patient flow designs to improve patient triage, treatment and satisfaction. The ER entrance will also be equipped with an automatic snow melt system, which will be particularly useful in Dubuque winters.
The top level of the new facility will house mechanical equipment and can accommodate further expansion needs such as a new helipad.
