Volunteer Spotlight: Conny McKeon
Why do you choose to volunteer at UnityPoint Health - Finley Hospital?
I choose to volunteer at Finley Hospital because I was born here and later became the secretary at the Finley School of Nursing. I love the people here at Finley Hospital. I have always felt comfortable here.
What is your most memorable volunteer experience at Finley?
I guess I just like everything about it! I enjoy escorting patients and family members, as well as delivering the newspaper and mail to patients. I also help at the registration desk when they need help. I work every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
What do you find most rewarding about your volunteer assignment?
I am a people person and enjoy coming to visit with all the patients and staff members. Volunteering keeps me going. I am going to be 93 years young in January and hope to continue this position as long as I can.
Who or what motivates you to volunteer?
I enjoy moving around and visiting with people throughout the hospital. I have made a reputation for myself, as people have started calling me “Trouble.” I have fun volunteering and enjoy making others smile.
What do you do outside of volunteering at Finley (career, hobbies, interests, etc?)
When I am not volunteering at Finley Hospital, I enjoy spending time with my cat, Tilly, and my family.
