UnityPoint Clinic Opens Respiratory Illness Clinic
Effective March 25, 2020, UnityPoint Clinic Westside Urgent Care
will become a Respiratory Illness Clinic, dedicated to the care of patients with respiratory illness.
When a patient calls any UnityPoint Clinic in the Cedar Rapids area with symptoms that include fever, cough and difficulty breathing, they will be screened over the phone, and then be advised on next steps. This could include an appointment at the Respiratory Illness Clinic, a telephonic PCP visit, or as appropriate, symptom management at home.
“The recommendation to patients and the community will be to call their primary care provider (PCP) for advice and direction to limit patient exposure to illness,” said Dr. John Roof, UnityPoint Clinic Cedar Rapids Regional Medical Director
. “These precautions are important, as they help protect others from being exposed to the virus.”
No Primary Care Physician?
People who do not have a PCP, can call (319) 730-9532 for screening and advice on next steps. This could include an appointment at the Respiratory Illness Clinic and/or a telephonic visit with a PCP.
“Westside Urgent Care was chosen for the Respiratory Illness Clinic as another way for UnityPoint Health to conserve the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) – allowing dedicated healthcare providers to work with these patients and therefore reducing the quantity of PPE used,” said Dr. Roof. “As an off-campus location it also helps limit visitors to the hospital.”
Until further notice, Westside Urgent Care will only be seeing scheduled patients
with respiratory illness. UnityPoint Clinic Hiawatha Urgent Care is closed as the providers and staff are now working at the Respiratory Illness Clinic. UnityPoint Clinic Internal Medicine at Hiawatha remains open.
Urgent Care Locations Open to Patients
UnityPoint Clinic Urgent Care Marion and UnityPoint Clinic Express in Hiawatha remain open for patients with no respiratory illness.
