UnityPoint Health Appoints Mark Burmester as Senior Vice President & Chief Strategy Officer

UnityPoint Health has named Mark A. Burmester as Senior Vice President & Chief Strategy Officer (SVP/CSO). Most recently, Burmester served as a member of the executive team for the Nebraska Methodist Health System in the role of Vice President, Strategic Planning and Business Development, and brings more than 30 years of healthcare experience to UnityPoint Health.

Burmester will lead business development, strategic planning, marketing and communications and project management functions. He will work collaboratively with regional executives and business unit leaders in their growth and strategic advancement. Burmester’s vast experience related to healthcare delivery and payer organizations as positions him to successfully drive organizational advancement, consumer engagement, brand loyalty and growth and partnerships.

While at Nebraska Methodist, Burmester led the development of the system's strategic plan, market growth strategies and payor contracting negotiations which contributed to market share growth, increase in operating margin as well as improvement in patient, physician and employee engagement. He also co-led the planning and development of the Nebraska Health Network (ACO) with Nebraska Medicine (Nebraska Medical Center and its related physicians), and collaborated in the development of Enhance Health, a strategic alliance of independent community hospitals. Mark's career also includes strategic planning roles at Kaiser Foundation Health Plan and Hospitals of the Northwest and VHA Mid-America. Mark has a Masters of Health Services Administration degree from Arizona State University and is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
