Popular Midwest Baby Names from 2017

Whether you had a baby in 2017, are looking at baby names for 2018 or just want to see if your own name remains on the list, it’s fun to review the top baby names from the past year. Baby Center recently released its list of top 100 popular baby names in 2017. Their top girl names include recent favorites, like Sophia, Olivia and Emma, while the top boy names were Jackson, Liam and Noah.

We also tallied a list of the most popular baby names of 2017 from across our entire health system. The list was compiled from the most common first names (and spelling variations) of the roughly 20,000 born at all UnityPoint Health facilities so far this year.

Top UnityPoint Health Girl Names

Two of our five top girl names matched trends across the United States. But, three others ranked higher in the areas we serve in Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin.

  2. Nora/Norah
  3. Olivia
  4. Adaline (including other spellings)
  5. Harper

Top UnityPoint Health Boy Names

On the other end, our top boy names were more traditional. While Liam appeared on our top names too, the rest of the boy names fell further down on Baby Center’s list.

  5. Mason
