Preventing Suicide, Together
In honor of Suicide Prevention Month, Allen College is raising funds for the UnityPoint Health – Allen Hospital Mental Health Unit in September. Understanding the issues concerning suicide and mental health is an important way to take part in prevention, help others in crisis, and change the conversation around suicide. Please join Allen College to raise awareness and donate to the mental health unit at UnityPoint Health – Allen Hospital.
Monetary donations are being collected, in addition to the items below, through September 30. You can donate online by credit card or payroll deduct.
- Hairbrushes, hair ties, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, puzzle books, word search books, gently used or new books, coloring books or pages, markers, colored pencils
Bins have been placed throughout the Allen College campus to collect physical donations. Please enter through Winter Hall doors and wear a mask.
Alex Starbeck was 18 when he died by suicide November 2, 2019. His mischievous grin, humorous antics, humility, and kind soul are continually missed. He had seasons of depression, but no one knew the depth of his pain.
"I lost a significant part of my existence with Alex. The pain is crippling. The grief endless. I work in healthcare and obviously missed signs; the guilt weighs on my heart."
