Each year KG95 personalities take the airwaves to highlight the value of raising money for Children's Miracle Network at UnityPoint Health-St. Luke's. Radiothon is a two-day fundraising event hosted live, on site, at the hospital. The event is run by the Foundation and many volunteers. Through heart-warming stories from parents and children's staff and the charitable nature of KG95 listeners, this important event continues to thrive year after year. For eighteen years, all Radiothon donations have remained in the local community.

Ride for Miracles
With a mission to raise awareness and funds for UnityPoint Health – St. Luke's Children's Miracle Network in Sioux City, Iowa, the Miracle Riders will once again hit the road in 2019. This August, the Miracle Riders will head east to face 30 states for the 30 years that UnityPoint Health – St. Luke's has been a Children's Miracle Network Hospital.
The journey of the Miracle Riders represents the journey sick and injured kids and babies find themselves part of each and every day. The riders will brave the elements and road conditions and will face situations that represent those of Miracle Kids - sun-shining days, potholes, loneliness, a race against the clock, darkness and a sense of accomplishment after their long journey.
"Whether it's a baby born at 1 lb. 6oz or a child facing a chronic condition like Lupus, they often don't know what the next day will bring; good news, challenging news, a setback, a cure. They keep persevering," said Anne Holmes, Director of St. Luke's Children's Miracle Network. "The Miracle Riders will undoubtedly be riding with the spirits of current and future Miracle Kids in the hopes that someday they can enjoy the feeling of the wind in their hair and the sun shining on their face."
All funds raised through sponsorships and individual donations will benefit St. Luke's Children's Miracle Network. In addition to raising funds, every rider covers his own travel and lodging expenses.
Questions about the ride? Contact Anne Holmes at 712-279-3295.
Cross Check Cancer
UnityPoint Health– St. Luke's Foundation has partnered with the Sioux City Musketeers for the past 11 years to help raise funds to fight cancer in Siouxland. After 10 years of Pink in the Rink, this will be the second year of Cross Check Cancer with funds going to support everyone fighting all different types of cancer. With thousands of dollars raised for Oncology Services in 2018, Cross Check Cancer is coming back in 2019 to raise even more awareness for this worthy cause.
Similar to Pink in the Rink, Cross Check Cancer will again have the ceremonial puck drop by a cancer survivor, lavender ice, survivors recognized, and a night full of hockey to raise support for those who battle cancer. In previous years, over 350,000 people have attended this event and joined together as a community to take a stand against cancer. As people and families daily face the challenges that cancer brings, our hope is to leave an impact on those battling cancer in Siouxland and show them how much we care.
Funds raised from Cross Check Cancer/Pink in the Rink have totaled to over $500,000. This money has gone to purchase two 3-D mammography units and special equipment the mammography units, making it more accessible to catch cancer at the earliest stages. Donations have made it possible for providers to have the latest and greatest technology available with sharper imaging, better depth, and more comfortable procedures. According to the American Cancer Society, out of the 1,750,000 Americans who were diagnosed with cancer in 2018, 286,000 passed away. With technology like this, it is possible to catch cancer earlier and raise the survival rate among cancer patients.
With thousands of tickets sold, generous sponsorships, and a hockey team's passion to end cancer, the past 11 years of this event have made a meaningful impact on our local community. 2019 looks to be no different than these and we would love to have you join us in the fight against cancer.
