Manager to the rescue, St. Luke's employee of the month

UnityPoint
Health – St. Luke’s Employee of the Month for July is Eileen Hansen, a manager
on the surgery/oncology floor at St. Luke’s. Hansen is a master planner with impeccable
attention to detail. This is some of the reason this surprise ceremony left her
confused and worried that she had let something slip through the cracks.
Traditionally,
managers play a role in helping plan these surprise ceremonies, but this time,
it was the manager being honored. When Hansen saw members of the Senior Team
and several others coming with the Employee of the Month award, she started to
panic a little bit. “I was worried that I missed the communication about the
ceremony. I was quickly trying to get all team members to the nurses’ station
to make sure this winner wasn’t going to miss out on their award,” says Hansen.
Before the
big announcement Hansen still had a confused look on her face and was spotted mouthing
to people across the room asking “Who, are they here and is it you?”
She never
thought for second that she was the one being honored and that didn’t surprise
Hansen’s boss, Sheryl Steuk. “She is incredibly humble and compassionate, she
is always focused on her team and making sure they have the support that they
need. She is so deserving of this honor.”
Team members
describe Hansen as an amazing leader who is helpful, genuine, understanding,
supportive, positive and professional.
As the St.
Luke’s Employee of the Month for July, Hansen received a special watch from Greenberg’s Jewelers, her own premium
parking space, gift cards to the St.
Luke’s Glass Apple Gift Shop, The Parkview Café and a gift certificate to
be used at an area restaurant. She will also have the chance to be voted as St.
Luke’s Employee of the Year for 2017. That comes with a paid vacation.
