Muscatine OB/GYN Testimonial:
When Nichole and Kris moved to Muscatine, Nichole had just had a miscarriage and needed an OB/GYN provider to follow-up with. Kimberly Sprague, CNM had an appointment opening, and ended up being a great fit for the couple.
When I first met with Kimberly after my miscarriage, she was fantastic. So when we found out we were pregnant again, it made sense to continue seeing her as my provider.
I'm a first time mom, but I'm also a bit older, so there were different health concerns. Kimberly answered all of my questions about various concerns and general pregnancy questions really well. Kimberly shared with me that she had been an OB nurse for 20 years before she became a midwife, so no matter what sort of off-the-wall question I had, she had an answer for it! She was also very calm and relaxed.
Everything about Kimberly was calm and professional - she kept really good tabs on me throughout my pregnancy, and even after I had Maxwell. She happened to be on call when I went into labor, so it was really nice that she was able to deliver Maxwell.
Delivering at BirthPlace
I came in to the hospital in labor around 1 a.m. It was very calming to have everyone there be so nice, professional and calm. The whole experience was stress free.
I had thought I was going to try to do natural childbirth, until my water broke. When the plans changed, the nurse and Kimberly were very nice, and were able to get me set up with an epidural. The anesthesiologist came in and she was fantastic as well - I was happy and pain free after that.
I was in labor during the shift change, but didn't notice any disruption; all of the new nurses and staff were very nice. Luanne was the labor nurse with me, she was absolutely fantastic. The quality of care that I received was better than I could have imagined. The personal touch meant so much.
Advice for New Moms
My advice would be to take advantage of all of the programs offered. The childbirth classes were where we got to know the staff. I also appreciated meeting the doctors and the other midwife on staff at UnityPoint Clinic. It was explained to me that I may not have my provider when I went in to labor, and it was really helpful to know that and to have it explained to me.
Everyone I came in contact with was very experienced, and had been doing this for a long time - that was very reassuring.
