When Kayla was six months pregnant, she moved from Des Moines, back home to Muscatine. She didn't know what a midwife was, and wasn't 100 percent sure about it, but her aunt recommended Kimberly Sprague, CNM. She called UnityPoint Clinic OB/GYN at Mulberry, and Kim Sprague happened to have an appointment time available when it worked for Kayla.
A New Kind of Care
At the first appointment, Kim explained what a midwife was and what to expect in my care from her. As a first time mom, I imagined what the experiences would be like, and Kim definitely lived up to my expectations.
I hit it off with Kim right away at our first appointment - she was awesome. We had a lot in common, and her bedside manner was amazing! The experience that I had with Kim was better than anything I had experienced before my move back to Muscatine.
A BirthPlace Experience
As it turns out, the room that I gave birth in was the same room that I was born in. How often does that happen? I thought that was a neat thing to add to my experience.
My nurses at BirthPlace Lisa and Lindsey - they were wonderful. The whole experience was really great, and Kim was there right away and stayed with me throughout my labor and delivery. The BirthPlace staff anticipated my needs and questions, and answered all of the questions that I had as a new mom. I can't say enough good things about Kim, my fiancé and I never felt uneasy about what was going on, it was a great experience.
