Melissa and Theresa Win DAISY Awards

The DAISY Award is an international program that rewards and celebrates the extraordinary clinical skill and compassionate care given by nurses every day. UnityPoint Health® is proud to be a DAISY Award Partner, recognizing our nurses with this special honor every month.

Melissa Springsteen, 4 North - Trinity Rock Island

Melissa's nomination story illustrates how setting realistic and attainable goals can help improve the patient experience.

Melissa's nomination story:

"Our mom came from the ER to 4N. Melissa was extremely attentive to her needs which gave us a chance to “breathe.” When mom was waiting for a procedure all day, she hadn’t eaten or had any liquid. With the cafeteria closing at 6:30 p.m., and the procedure scheduled for 7:30 p.m., Melissa worked with the cafeteria to order food and hold it, requiring her to head it up for mom when she was able to eat. She went above and beyond! Mostly we appreciate Melissa’s kindness. She saw mom as more than a patient and that spoke volumes to all of us. Melissa’s attention to detail, quick responses to the button, and prompt response to any family concern makes her outstanding!

Thank you so much, Melissa. Keep doing what you do!"

Theresa Carr, RN Surgical Care - Trinity Bettendorf

Theresa's nomination story:

"In August, my life changed. Not only did I find out after almost two years of trying that I was pregnant with my second child, but I also found out it was a tubal pregnancy. It was that day I found out I would have to terminate the baby I was supposed to carry, meet, and raise. We were heartbroken. I cried so much. Everything happened so fast. After my surgery, the next morning I met Theresa. I could see she already had two DAISY pins so I knew she had to be good. She was kind, caring, and very sweet. Even though I was depressed, when we talked, her upbeat and positive attitude made me have a positive attitude. She waited on me and never complained or was rude. I’ll never forget her. You’re amazing, Theresa."

Help us congratulate Melissa and Theresa for their dedication to exceptional patient care!
