Rehabilitation Services

The Rehab Center helps patients recover function after surgery, stroke, injury, or other disabling condition. We focus on each patient's abilities, not disabilities. Our team works together to rehabilitate patients for their return to daily activities at home, work, and in the community.

The Rehabilitation Process Follows 4 Steps:

We study each patient's medical history, lifestyle, and goals to create a custom-made plan of care.

Goals may include walking, muscle strengthening, independent living skills, and communication skills.

We teach, pain management, fall prevention, disease/disability management and more. We also educate family members on ways they can help upon discharge, and what support groups are available.

Before discharge, the rehab team meets with the patient and family to make sure a plan of care is in place once the patient leaves. Patients receive phone calls after discharge to check on their progress.

The Rehab Team

Treatment plans are created by a group of healthcare professionals who are trained in rehabilitation medicine. The rehab team may include:

  • Rehabilitation doctor
  • Physical therapist
  • Occupational therapist
  • Speech therapist
  • Recreational therapist
  • Rehabilitation nurses
  • Case manager
  • Psychologist
  • Dietician

The rehab team meets weekly to discuss each patient's progress and review your discharge plan.

Stroke Rehabilitation Statistics

  • 70% of stroke patients who receive rehabilitation are discharged home
  • More than three-fourths of stroke survivors discharged from rehab units can ambulate without help and many are independent in activities of daily living
  • Rehabilitated stroke patients are less than half as likely to be hospitalized a year after their initial attack

Rehabilitation Goals

  • Increase self-care skills
  • Improve psychological adjustment
  • Improve self-image
  • Improve mobility, health, and independence
  • Maximize the ability to enjoy life
  • Prevent secondary complications and secondary stroke

Patients can be admitted to the Methodist Acute Inpatient Rehabilitation Center from home, a hospital, or other type of facility without a prior 3-day acute hospital stay.
