Meet the Heart and Vascular Team

UnityPoint Health – Peoria's team of highly skilled professionals includes heart specialists, surgeons, interventional radiologists and nurses. We work together to offer effective diagnostics and treatments for any heart condition. We do so with a welcoming and inclusive spirit.

Our heart team will coordinate your care. You'll have providers who can help you every step of the way — from diagnosis to treatment and throughout your recovery.

Member of Our Heart Team

While you're with us, you'll have a whole team dedicated to your care and treatment. Depending on the type of treatment you receive, you may see several different providers.

Your care team may include these types of physicians:

  • Cardiologists: Cardiologists specialize in treating diseases of the heart and blood vessels.
  • Electrophysiologists: These specialists treat heart rhythm disorders, or arrhythmias. They may use medications, procedures or device implants.
  • Interventional cardiologists: These specialists diagnose and treat heart disease with minimally invasive procedures using thin tubes called catheters.
  • Interventional radiologists: These doctors use special imaging like X-rays and MRI, along with minimally invasive procedures, to diagnose and treat cardiovascular disease.

Other providers are an essential part of your care. You may receive treatment and support from:

  • Nurses: Nurses and nurse practitioners work alongside doctors and other providers to manage heart disease.
  • Physician assistants: These providers focus on managing and coordinating care and treatments during clinic visits.
  • Cardiac rehab providers: After a heart procedure, physical therapists and exercise specialists can develop a personalized cardiac rehabilitation plan to strengthen your heart. Learn more about cardiac rehab.
  • Chaplains and social workers: Our chaplains provide spiritual support to you and your family. Social workers can help you navigate the logistics of treatment, including emotional and financial concerns.
