Hard work and a giving spirit have always been a part of Emiko Yang’s life. While she is retired now, Emiko continues to give back and is proud to have endowed the Emiko Kamasaki Yang scholarship for nursing students at Methodist College. Each spring semester one student will receive a scholarship of at least $500 from this fund.
Emiko is a native of Hawaii and came to Peoria in the early 1980’s. After 32 years of working for us, she is now a proud Methodist retiree. Several of the scholarships at the College are donated by alumni, but this one is a bit different. Her decision to establish a scholarship came from her desire to help others succeed. During her career she had the opportunity to work with many graduates of what used to be known as the Methodist School of Nursing and saw the high quality of nurses we trained. She wants to be a part of making sure that quality tradition continues into the future.
Emiko donates because she “…hopes that others will carry on a tradition of giving and volunteering — that is what keeps me fulfilled.” Like many of the retirees, she continues to have strong connections to UnityPoint Health – Methodist | Proctor and gives generously to the Foundation. This scholarship is one way she exhibits her commitment. Emiko Yang is helping UnityPoint Health in Peoria provide the Best Outcome For Every Patient, Every Time.
