Convenient and Personal Care Improves Patient Experience

After Becky Keedy was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2017, she was concerned about what comes next. But she says the personal and expert care provided by UnityPoint Health’s Radiation Oncology team, made her feel right at home.
“I was greeted with a smile and a hug at every visit. I love everyone down there. From the doctors, to the valet service, to the receptionists, to the nurses, they are all really nice and helpful,” said Keedy.
For the first time at UnityPoint Health, Keedy’s Radiation Oncology care team used a technique where a single radiation treatment was administered to five separate lesions in a single visit, whereas normally a patient would come in five separate times to receive treatment to each lesion. By administering treatment in this way, a prescribed dosage of radiation is delivered to all lesions uniformly. In addition, Keedy’s number of visits was reduced from five to one and her treatment time was reduced by more than four hours.
“They were incredible. The doctors explained everything to me so that I had a complete understanding of what was going on. They followed up with me so they knew I was doing well,” said Keedy. “I would recommend UnityPoint Health to anybody because they make me feel like I matter to them.”
