AWHONN Instructor Course: Intermediate Fetal Monitoring 4/22/25
Prior to being able to enroll in this course, Pre-required documents need to be completed and sent to Nancy.Comello@unitypoint.org, the FHM Instructor trainer. Please email her if you have not yet done this.
This workshop is taught by AWHONN-approved Instructor Trainers. The workshop prepares participants to teach the Intermediate Fetal Monitoring Course. Content includes principles and application of adult learning theory as applicable for teaching the Intermediate Fetal Monitoring Course, such as integrating principles of adult learning into the didactic and skills course components, incorporating appropriate teaching methods and strategies during the lecture, and demonstrating knowledge of the assigned components of the course during the micro-teach. Information about the administrative and operational aspects of FHIM is presented.
This course is the initial step for individuals who wish to become approved AWHONN FHM Program Instructors.
Learning Outcomes:
- Apply adult learning/teaching principles to the Intermediate Fetal Monitoring Course
- Demonstrate entry-level proficiency in teaching selected segments of the Intermediate Fetal Course (lecture and skill stations)
- Manage classroom issues and formulate problem-solving techniques
- Identify administrative responsibilities, policies, and procedures of the Intermediate Fetal Monitoring Course
- Demonstrate navigation of the AWHONN website for administrative functions
Nursing Contact Hours: 5.75 nursing contact hours available through January 31, 2025
Workshop Format:
Successful completion of online prerequisite education is required prior to attending the one-day in-person portion of the course.
• prerequisite online learning approximately two hours.
• in-person workshop is four hours and cannot be taught virtually.
Nursing contact hours will be awarded after the successful completion of a micro teach. Nursing contact hours will be awarded after the online evaluation is completed and is required to receive nursing contact hours for the course.
To attend the instructor course, every participant needs to purchase the $225 Instructor Course Student Pack. It will contain the scratch-off coding to access online education which is included with the purchase of materials through Kendall Hunt. You will be sent a link for this purchase after course registration.
After completing the Intermediate Teach back, access to the complete Intermediate Instructor Teaching materials or purchase of the materials at $495 from Kendall Hunt will be accessible.
This workshop is limited to 6 participants, and registration must be completed 6 weeks PRIOR to the workshop.
