Volunteers of UnityPoint Health – Meriter offer their gift of time to enhance the patient and family experience and promote a place of care and healing.
At Your Service
The At Your Service (AYS) volunteers are located at the Information Desk in the lobby. AYS volunteers are scheduled Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. and weekends from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. AYS volunteers run errands for the hospital departments and escort patients and visitors as needed.
Birthing Center (Family Care Center)
Birthing Center volunteers assist the nursing staff with patient discharges, visiting with patients on bed rest and other duties as needed. Volunteers are scheduled from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. seven days a week.
Digestive Health Center
Digestive Health volunteers will assist the staff by restocking of supplies, running errands and helping with room turnover. Volunteers are scheduled 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Monday through Friday and from 12 to 3 p.m. on Thursdays.
Emergency Room volunteers provide assistance to the staff by performing duties such as transporting of patients, restocking of supplies, running errands and helping with room turnover. Emergency Room volunteers are scheduled weekdays, weeknights and week-ends.
Flower Room Delivery
Volunteers deliver floral arrangements to the inpatients in the hospital. The Flower Room is open 12:30 to 2:45 p.m., Monday through Friday.
The volunteers assist the customers of the Gift Shop. Customer service and cash handling experience preferred. The Gift Shop is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturdays 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sundays 12 to 3 p.m.
Heart & Vascular Short-Stay Unit (HVSSU)
HVSSU volunteers greet, direct and escort patients of the Heart & Vascular Short-Stay unit. Volunteers are scheduled 6 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
The Information Desk is located in the lobby of the hospital. Volunteers will assist patients and visitors as they enter the hospital; providing information, directing and escorting as needed. Volunteers are scheduled 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Infusion Center volunteers will round on patients and family members to ensure their comfort needs are being met. The Infusion Center is open from 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., Monday – Friday and 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekends and holidays.
Joint Care Class
The Joint Care volunteer will assist the Joint Care Coordinators before, during and after pre-operative orthopedic classes. Joint Care classes are held Monday mornings and every other Tuesday morning from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Volunteers in the Perinatal Clinic provide clerical assistance for the staff. Volunteers are scheduled weekdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Volunteers are placed in both the Inpatient Pharmacy and Outpatient Pharmacy.Priority is given to Pre-Pharmacy students.Volunteers are scheduled weekdays between the hours of 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Volunteers are assigned to a therapist as they are working with patients. Volunteers have an opportunity to observe sessions and provide assistance with other duties as needed. Priority is given to Pre-PT students. Volunteers are scheduled 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., and 1 to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Volunteers must be available for the full shift.
Pulmonary Clinic volunteers provide clerical assistance for the staff. Volunteers are scheduled 7:45 to 11:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Surgical Waiting Room
The Surgical Waiting Room is open 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.The Surgical Waiting Room Volunteer greets families, directs and/or escorts them to locations within the hospital, answers the phone and coordinates surgeon consultations following a patient's surgical procedure.
Team UP (Team Unit Partner)
The Team UP volunteer acts as a greeter to provide comfort needs, activities and conversation to patients and families during their hospital stay, as well as assist noncomplicated, medically-stable patients at discharge. Volunteers are scheduled between 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. seven days a week.
