4 Tower Welcome Desk
Enhance the patient experience by checking in on patients, visitors, and families, escorting patient visitors to the Surgical Waiting Room, located on 2 Atrium and supporting patient registration staff by filing paperwork under their guidance. Weekdays 7 a.m. - 3 p.m. You may do homework or read a book during downtime in this role.

10 Tower Heart & Vascular Short-Stay Unit (HVSSU)
Greet, direct and escort patients in the Heart & Vascular Short-Stay unit. Weekdays 6 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. 

At Your Service (AYS) †
Welcome and escort patients and visitors in our lobby, deliver flowers and newspapers to inpatients, and respond to various unit requests such as running errands or assisting with discharges. Weekdays 6 a.m. - 7 p.m. and weekends 9:30 a.m. - 7 p.m. 

Bedside DJ
Improve the experiences of patients by using a smart phone and Bluetooth speaker to share patient-selected music. Bedside DJs ultimately serve as patient companions that use music to foster meaningful conversations and help patients reclaim access to cherished music and memories. Scheduling for this position is flexible, but generally once a week for 2-4 hours between 11 a.m.- 8 p.m.

Birthing Center
Assist the nursing staff with patient discharges, water refills, visiting with patients on bedrest and other departmental tasks as needed. Daily from 10 a.m. - 7 p.m. 

Blood Drive *†
UnityPoint Health-Meriter hosts blood drives in collaboration with Red Cross every 8 weeks at McConnell Hall. Volunteers help with set up, tear down, registration, and companionship during the blood drives. Six Fridays a year from 6:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. 

Capoeira *º
Capoeira volunteers provide an opportunity for patients at the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (CAP) to experience creative movement and music through the art of Capoeira. Every other Saturday from 9 - 11 a.m.

Clinical Nutrition
Assist the clinical nutrition department in providing the best nutrition care possible for our patients and visitors. Weekdays 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Crafter *†º
Interested in volunteering from home? Our crafters handmake the following items which enhance the patient experience here at Meriter Hospital: infant hats and booties, blankets, tote bags, NICU Scent Hearts, Heart Pillows, toe warmers and eye glass cases. Crafts can be produced from home and delivered weekdays 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. to the Volunteer Services Office. Crafting volunteers do not need to go through the regular onboarding process.

Digestive Health Center
Assist the staff by restocking supplies, running errands and helping with room turnover. Weekdays 9 a.m. – noon; Thursdays noon - 3 p.m. 

Disaster Call-In *
Support hospital and clinic staff during day-to-day activities in emergency response situations. Once assigned to a department, volunteers will be able to work with staff, assist patients and participate in support activities. Volunteers are added to an on-call list and phoned in the case of an emergency.

Dogs on Call *
Dogs on Call volunteer teams provide pet-therapy interactions to hospital patients, patients' family members, staff, and hospital visitors which allows for diversion, companionship, motivation, and education. The team must have successfully completed the Pet Partners evaluation process and be able to commit to at least one visit per month for a year. Scheduling is flexible within visitor hours 7 days a week.

Emergency Preparedness Drills *
Participate in Emergency Preparedness drills and exercises. Drills and exercises are usually weekdays from 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. with occasional early morning, evening, or weekend opportunities. Volunteers will be contacted as needed. 

Emergency Services
Assist the department by transporting patients, restocking supplies, running errands and helping with room turnover. Emergency Room volunteers can be scheduled around the clock with the busiest time being nights and weekends. 

Employee Health Services
Provide administrative support to accommodate the health needs of staff which in turn allows the hospital to provide the best possible care to our patients and visitors. Weekdays 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Employee Wellness | Screening Events *
Help greet staff warmly and guide them through the check-in process for our annual biometric screenings at the hospital and our offsite clinics in the early morning hours from January- February each year. This is a wonderful way for volunteers and employees to interact! 

Foundation †º
Assist the Foundation with administrative and donor stewardship duties to further impact the mission of UnityPoint Health – Meriter. Generally, weekdays 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. with occasional early morning, evening or weekend special event opportunities.

Gift Shop
Put your customer services skills to use by welcoming and assisting visitors in our Gift Shop. Retail experience preferred. Weekdays 8:30 a.m.- 7 p.m., Saturdays 11 a.m.- 3 p.m. and Sundays 12- 3 p.m.

Hope, Understanding, Grief Support (HUGS) *
The Hope, Understanding, Grief Support group (HUGS) provides support and resources under the Bereaved Parents of Madison, Inc. umbrella to grieving families during and after pregnancy loss, stillbirth, or infant death. Volunteers must attend bereavement training before providing in-hospital support. Volunteers are called on an as needed basis.

Hospital Elder Life Program (HELP)
Assist elder patients with physical and mental activities that improve the patients' hospital experience and help maintain cognitive and physical functioning during a hospital stay. Daily 7:30 a.m. - 10:30 p.m. One-year commitment required.

Human Resources †
Provide administrative support to help better reach and educate all staff members. The greatest need for help is mid-October during open enrollment. Otherwise, shifts are scheduled on an as needed basis, weekdays 8 a.m.- 4 p.m.

Information Desk
Greet patients and visitors as they enter the hospital. Provide information, parking validations, directions and escorting as needed. Weekdays 8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. 

Marketing †º
Support the Marketing department with special events and projects such as creating marketing material packets. Weekdays 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Mother-Baby Care: Administrative Support
Provide clerical support needed by the Mother- Baby team in order to keep up with weekly class schedules and preparation for events. Weekdays 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Special event help is needed in September for the Perinatal Luncheon.

Mother-Baby Care: Simulation Actors/Assistants *
Help better prepare our physicians, nurses, and other health care providers by assisting with obstetric and neonatal simulations during training days. Tasks may include mannequin set-up and take-down, organizing class materials and serving as an actor for simulations both onsite and at the Center for Health Care Simulation Lab. There are 28 specific opportunities on weekdays in 2020 from 6 - 11 a.m. or 1 - 4 p.m. 

Provide emotional and developmental support and comfort to convalescing premature and full-term babies and their families by supplementing the care given to the babies by professional staff and families. Volunteers also provide support to the NICU staff by performing additional tasks on the unit. Daily from 6 a.m. to midnight.

Occupational Therapy º
Assist occupational therapists at the Monona Clinic with tasks such as organizing materials, cleaning toys and tools, filing, copying and stocking inventory to enhance the quality of the environment for our patients and families. Weekdays 7 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.

Perinatal Clinic †
Welcome visitors in the waiting room, answer questions, engage with children in the play area, escort patients to other areas, help ensure patients have not been waiting long and assist with various tasks and departmental projects as needed. Mondays 12:30 - 4 p.m., Wednesdays 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., and Fridays 7:30 a.m. - noon.

Volunteers are placed in both the Inpatient Pharmacy and Outpatient Pharmacy to assist technicians with stocking, labeling, and other tasks. Weekdays 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Priority is given to Pre-Pharmacy students.

Physical Therapy
Observe physical therapy sessions and help with other departmental duties as needed such as cleaning equipment and keeping the gym areas tidy. Weekdays 8:30 a.m. - noon or 1 - 4 p.m. Must be available for the full shift. Priority is given to Pre-PT students. 

Scholarship Committee*
Support Volunteer Services with the UnityPoint Health-Meriter Scholarship program which awards financial assistance to local high school applicants planning to pursue a career in the healthcare field. This position typically requires approximately 50 hours per year for committee meetings, application review, event planning and the scholarship banquet each spring. 

Special Projects and Events *†
Join the Volunteer Services department in supporting various departments' special project requests such as assembling Fall Prevention Packets, Sage Wipe replacement kits, and other one-off projects to better serve our patients. Weekdays 7 a.m.- 4 p.m. depending on project needs. Can volunteer on an on-call basis.

Spiritual Care
Roman Catholic Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (Eucharistic Ministers) are a part of the spiritual care team and an important component in the spiritual care of Roman Catholic patients at UnityPoint Health - Meriter Hospital. Meriter recognizes the healing power that is extended through the Sacraments and persons distributing the Eucharist. Through this distribution, the connection between the hospital, patient's parish, as well as, the Church is supported. Flexible scheduling within visiting hours.

Surgical Waiting Room
Greet families, direct and/or escort them to locations within the hospital, answer the phone and coordinate surgeon consultations following a patient's surgical procedure. Weekdays 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Team Unit Partner (Team UP)
Provide comfort needs, activities and conversation to patients and families during their hospital stay, as well as assist noncomplicated, medically-stable patients at discharge. Daily from 11 a.m. - 7:30 p.m. on 6 Tower, 7 Tower, 8 Tower, 8 Atrium, 9 Tower, and 11 Tower or weekdays 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. in the Infusion Center (2 Atrium). 

Wellness Center º
Assist Pulmonary Rehab patients and independent, self-pay exercisers in the Stay Fit program – listening to their concerns, helping them with equipment set up, and answering questions in a timely manner. Tuesdays and Thursdays 10 a.m.- 4 p.m.

Wellness Center Education Class †º
Assist Wellness Center staff in preparing for and conducting education classes for Cardiac Rehab patients, Pulmonary Rehab patients, and Wellness Center independent clients. Weekdays 9:30 a.m. - 6 p.m.
