My First Surgery

At my last annual exam with my primary physician, Dr. Wendy Mortimore, who I think is very personable and knowledgeable, I told her I believed it was Carpal tunnel syndrome and wore splints at night to manage the numbness and tingling. She recommended getting a Nerve conduction test to determine the severity of the condition and then to meet with Dr. Amy Franta (Meriter Orthopedics Deming Way) to review the results and discuss a course of action. The test revealed both hands were severe and she recommended Carpal tunnel release surgery to prevent further damage, which would be losing strength and sensation in both hands. At 58 years old, I have been fortunate to never have had surgery, so even though this type of surgery is fairly standard, it was a new experience for me and a bit of a scary one.

Dr. Franta and her staff were very personable and professional, I felt very confident things would go well. Surgery took place at Meriter Hospital Outpatient Center and I was so impressed by the entire staff there. Dr. Franta stopped in to see me before surgery and again set my mind at ease everything would be just fine. The entire staff was very caring and professional, and before I knew it, I was done with surgery and heading home. The numbness and tingling were gone immediately! Dr. Franta's office followed up with me the next day to make sure I was doing fine and to see if I had any questions or concerns. It was such a great experience I decided to have the right hand done 14 weeks later. And again, excellent treatment and excellent results.

Thank you Meriter Hospital Outpatient staff for making my first surgery experience a good one. And I highly recommend Dr. Amy Franta at Deming Way Orthopedics for your Orthopedic needs.
