I haven't smoked a cigarette since.
For many years I worked for a guy who always said the only thing that would make a person change (habits) was a SUBSTANTIAL EMOTIONAL EVENT. I believe this to be true. All one has to do is find it.
Many years ago, I was in our garage putting around and smoking a cigarette (I never smoked in the house) when my oldest son walked in. He immediately lit up and came at me thumping me in the chest, crying and repeating that "I WAS GOING TO DIE from smoking cigarettes." This was not my substantial event, I continued smoking but never around the house or kids.
A number of years after that day I came home from work and went into the house. The 3 younger kids were just starring at me, one in middle school, two in elementary school. My youngest came over to me and put a note in my hand and went back and sat down with the others. I opened the note and all it said was "I saw dad smoking a cigarette on the way to school this morning!" That was my substantial emotional event. I haven't had a cigarette since.
