Birthing Center: "We hit the nurse jackpot"
I cannot say enough about the care my family and I received when I went to Meriter to deliver my first son. I was urgently induced and so there was an element of anxiety and concern regarding my condition. The nurses on the labor and delivery unit made me feel safe and secure in their compassionate care and patient explanations of each step and new treatment.
Two nurses that stood out were Thy and Dawn. They helped me through painful interventions and contractions. They offered many different pain relief strategies and always made me feel as though I was the focus and priority. My son's heart rate dropped during pushing and had to be vacuum extracted. This was very stressful and scary but Dawn was there the entire time providing reassurance and holding my hand. I am not sure how I would have made it through without her! I hope these nurses never question what they were meant to do because nursing and being strength for laboring Mother’s is without a doubt their calling!
We continued to receive excellent care while on the postpartum unit. This was our first baby and as you can imagine we’re a bit overwhelmed and insecure. Stephanie and Whitney did an amazing job walking us through those first couple of days. They provided such gentle and compassionate care to me but most importantly to my son. Whether they were doing assessments or swaddling him, they always cared for him so gently as if he were their own. They made me feel like I was a priority. They were patient in their teaching and when answering our million questions! My husband, son and I could not have picked better people to help us on those first couple of days! We hit the nurse jackpot! These nurses are doing exactly what they are meant to be doing. We were sad to leave the hospital and not a lot of people can say that!
