UnityPoint Health - Meriter Children's Center
Parent Advisory Council

Our Parent Advisory Council (PAC) serves as an advisory and support group for center management, teachers, and families.

The PAC consists of eleven members. Seven members represent families of children enrolled in the Children's Center; four members are program staff (manager, program coordinator and 2 teacher liaisons).

Parent Advisory Functions

The group's role is to provide a strong communication link about the family perspective in program planning and policies, plan social and fundraising events, and hold informational meetings. The PAC works closely with the manager, program coordinator, and staff to provide a high quality,child-centered environment for our children.

The Parent Advisory Council plans quarterly Family Events to promote family involvement and partnership with the Children's Center.  These events also provide an opportunity to update parents on center and Parent Advisory Council activities.

Parent Volunteer Opportunities

The Children's Center offers a range of volunteer opportunities – anything from dropping in for lunch, accompanying a field trip, organizing one of our events, or helping before, during or after one of our parties.  We recognize that each family has its own preferences, available time, and talents.  We do hope, however, that each family will find some way to join us as a volunteer.

Fundraising and Funding Guidelines

The Parent Advisory Council coordinates fundraisers each year.  Parents are requested to participate in at least one activity annually.  Funds generated from these activities directly support the Children's Center activities, special events and equipment purchases.

Requests for funding from teaching staff must be directed to the Meriter Children's Center manager.  Requests for funding from parents should be directed to a Parent Advisory Council member.  Expenditures for equipment shall be reported during the Parent Advisory Council's meetings.
