Collagen Induction Therapy (Micro-Needling)

Collagen Induction Therapy is a safe, minimally invasive skin-rejuvenation technique involving a roller device covered in fine needles. The needles are used to puncture the skin to create a controlled skin injury. There is no tissue damage during the procedure. Instead, these microscopic wounds stimulate skin to release natural growth factors, new collagen and elastin—all a part of the body's natural healing process.

Collagen Induction Therapy has only recently been embraced in America, but the treatment has been used in various forms for decades in Europe. The simple action of creating a tiny wound without heat, chemicals or any other technology is effective in addressing a range of concerns, including:

  • Wrinkles
  • Skin texture and firmness
  • Skin thickness and elasticity
  • Appearance of scars and stretch marks
  • Dark spots, age spots and sun spots
  • Pore size

Many patients also notice deeper absorption of—and better results from—their daily topical skincare products.

Immediately after a treatment, you'll likely look as if you have a sunburn. This may last the rest of the day or several days, depending on your specific treatment.  The Plastic Surgery team will advise you to treat your skin gently for at least a week. Some patients may require a longer healing period. The number of treatments needed depends on your goals and the specific issue being addressed.
