Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) Services

A Maternal Fetal Medicine Specialist, also known as a Perinatologist, is an obstetrician/gynecologist that has received specialized training to take care of women with high risk pregnancies. Women are referred to meet with an MFM specialist for consultation for a variety of reasons, either prior to or during a pregnancy. The MFM specialist discusses the reason for the referral and takes a comprehensive medical history. A detailed plan of care for her future or current pregnancy is given to the patient and her primary care provider. Patients meet not only with the MFM specialist but also may meet with one of our MFM Fellows, High Risk Nurses, Clinical Nurse Specialist and others in our specialized interdisciplinary team. A MFM consult is required prior to being followed in our High Risk Perinatal Clinic.
