Safety is our number one priority, so as the number of COVID-19 cases change in our community, it may be necessary for us to adjust our guidelines. Please know that all of the restrictions below are subject to change.
UnityPoint Health - Meriter requires all patients and visitors at all Meriter facilities to wear a face covering or mask to help slow the spread of COVID-19.
UnityPoint Health - Meriter is requiring every person (providers, staff, patients, visitors, etc.) in Meriter Facilities (all spaces, including non-clinical areas) to wear a minimum of a barrier mask protection. Anyone who arrives with a cloth face covering will be provided with a barrier mask, which provides a higher level of protection.
All Adult Patients (including the Emergency Room, Surgery and Procedures) – No support persons.
Pediatric Patients (including NICU and Emergency Room) – Two (2) support persons.
Mother-Baby Services (Triage, Labor and Delivery, Antepartum, Family Center and Perinatal Clinic) – One (1) support person.
COVID-19 Positive and/or Patients being Treated for COVID-19 – No support persons.
Patients Approaching End-of-Life (including COVID-19 Positive Patients) – No more than three visitors allowed at any one time, in coordination with nursing team.
While exceptions are rare, we will work collaboratively with patients to provide reasonable accommodation to support disability-related needs.
Clergy, doulas and out-of-hospital midwives are considered vital parts of our patients' care team and will be permitted in addition to any patient support person.

We ask adults to attend their appointment alone. Decreasing the number of people in the clinic helps to decrease the spread of germs and other illnesses. Please contact your clinic if you need a support person to assist with mobility, concerns with understanding/information or emotional support.
Pediatric patients (under age 18) may attend appointments with no more than two (2) healthy parents/guardians. No siblings are permitted. Know that parents/guardians will need to accompany the patient throughout the appointment and cannot wait in the waiting room.
Child & Adolescent Psychiatry:
Two (2) support persons.

We know that it's vital to our patients' health and wellbeing to see loved ones during their stay. Due to COVID-19, Meriter currently has visitor restrictions in place that in most cases, will not allow friends and family to visit in-person. But, that doesn't mean you can't connect! Many phones, tablets and computers have free and easy ways to communicate via video, voice or text. Visit here for tips on virtual visiting options.
We are committed to keeping our patients, visitors, and employees as safe as possible. You must follow these safety rules to protect yourself and others:
All hospital visitors will have their temperature taken and screened for symptoms upon entry to the hospital. Those who do not pass the screening will not be allowed to visit/provide support in our facilities.
Children under the age of 16 will not be allowed, unless they are visiting a patient at the end-of-life and accompanied by an adult.
Cover your nose and mouth with a face covering at all times.
Stay in the patient's room during your visit. use the nearest public restroom when needed.
Keep the same visitors daily within our visiting hours of 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. All visitors must leave the hospital at 9 p.m. Exceptions may occur within Birthing Center and NICU only.
Do not gather in public spaces. Maintain social distancing (at least 6 feet away from others) even when wearing a face covering. No more the three (3) people may ride in an elevator at one time.
Wash your hand frequently. Use hand sanitizing gel when entering and exiting the building and patient rooms.
It is strongly encouraged that you obtain and consume any food or drink outside our facility to ensure compliance with face covering requirements. Follow unit guidelines for food and drink in the Birthing Center and NICU.
Patients and visitors are required to wear a mask at all times.
Visitors/Support persons will be screened for COVID symptoms upon entry and have their temperature taken. Those who do not pass the screening will not be allowed to visit/provide support in our facilities.
All individuals are expected to respect social distancing (maintaining at least 6-feet away from others) even when wearing a face covering.
An accompanying support person is not allowed to wait alone in the waiting room during the patient's visit, as the waiting room is reserved only for patients. The support person must always accompany the patient throughout their appointment. If this is not possible (e.g., patient requests privacy), the support person will be asked to wait in their car.
Patients are always welcome to have someone accompany them by phone or other electronic device.
We understand these visitor restrictions may be difficult for you. While we are committed to providing a family-centered care environment, right now limiting visitors is in the best interest of our patients and staff.
The hospital Gift Shop has reopened and have new hours of operation:
Monday - Friday: 10AM - 5PM
Saturday: 10AM - 3PM
Masking and hand sanitizing are required and social distancing must be maintained. The Gift Shop will continue to offer online orders, front door pick up, and deliveries within the hospital.

All community group meetings that take place at Meriter hospital, McConnell Hall, Meriter Business Center, Meriter Arbor Gate Buildings and all other Meriter properties for meetings, trainings etc., effectively immediately through the end of May 2020.
