Accreditation

Quality-based Accreditation

Grundy County Memorial Hospital earned a quality-based national accreditation from DNV GL Healthcare based on the hospital's performance on a rigorous review and survey. The hospital is one of ten Iowa hospitals who have received the DNV accreditation, which demonstrates exceptional patient care and safety.

GCMH first began working on accreditation in early 2019, undergoing its first DNV accreditation visit in October of 2019. Accreditation was received in December 2019, followed by annual reviews by DNV in 2020 and 2021. This achievement is evidence of the hospital's commitment to clinical excellence, patient safety, and overall quality of care – as well as its emphasis on continuous improvement. In the words of hospital administrator Adam Scherling, "Our hospital adopted the DNV performance improvement model not because we are a hospital with problems and believe we need remediation, but because we believe it's the right program to help us truly provide exemplary care for our patients. DNV's approach to accreditation is collaborative and utilizes education and guidance to achieve improvements in patient care while setting high standards for the hospitals it examines."

To maintain DNV accreditation, Grundy County Memorial Hospital is committed to continuous improvement, and a state of constant readiness for an exam and survey, which DNV conducts annually. Accreditation by DNV allows Grundy County Memorial Hospital to receive reimbursement for patients served who are covered by Medicare or Medicaid. The DNV accreditation program was first authorized by the Centers for Medicare Services more than ten years ago.
Other UnityPoint Health rural hospitals in Iowa who are also DNV accredited include Greater Regional Medical Center in Creston, Clarke County Hospital in Osceola, Story County Medical Center, Nevada, and Trinity Regional Medical Center, Fort Dodge.
