Mobile Crisis Response Team

Mental health crises don't only happen during office hours. When you or a loved one has a mental health emergency, the mobile crisis response team at UnityPoint Health – Berryhill Center is here for you 24/7. We work with the Iowa Department of Public Health to serve residents of Webster, Pocahontas, Humboldt and Wright Counties in Iowa.

Mobile Crisis Response Team: How It Works

When you can't get to the Berryhill Center or our behavioral health urgent care clinic, or it's after hours, our mobile crisis response team steps in. Trained, compassionate counselors are on call to come to you.

When you call the crisis line at (855) 581-8111, our trained responders assess the situation. If they believe that an in-person response is necessary, they dispatch two certified professionals to help you through your crisis.

Mental health is not easy to talk about. But when you call, you speak with someone who cares and understands your mental health emergency. They keep what you share confidential, and if you need it, they send our mobile counseling unit to help.

The mobile crisis response team is available to all ages. Anyone experiencing a mental health crisis can access the crisis line for disorders such as:

  • Adolescent behavioral issues
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Substance use
  • Suicidal thoughts

Our mobile counseling unit responds to the scene within 60 minutes. The on-call counselors perform crisis assessments and spend time with you to see if:

  • You have suicidal or homicidal thoughts
  • The team can de-escalate and stabilize the situation in the field
  • You need transportation to ensure your safety (available for clients age 12 and older, with the presence of a parent or guardian for children and dependent adults)

If you need safety and are willing to contract for it, the crisis counselor will complete a thorough safety plan with you. Within 24 hours after the crisis interaction, a case manager contacts you and provides up to 30 days of case management services. Case managers can coordinate appointments, provide transportation, address your concerns and connect you with any resources you may need.
