Having My Baby
When you choose UnityPoint Health - Trinity Regional Medical Center Birth Center you are ensuring you and your baby receive the highest level of care available. Before you arrive it is important to know what to expect during your stay. Trinity offers one-on-one care during labor and delivery for you and your baby in the privacy of your own birth suite. Every birth at Trinity is monitored around the clock by health care providers.
Your nurses will play an extremely important part during your stay. Your labor nurse will be with you in active labor and during birth. You and your baby will each have a nurse to help you learn to take care of yourself and your baby after labor. After the birth of your baby there are many assessments done for your baby by the nursery nurse. Some of these assessments include:
- Initial assessment/exam
- Daily weight check
- Wet and soiled diapers
Trinity practices family centered care, which means your nurse will include your family in discussions or issues concerning the birth of your baby or afterwards. This also means your baby will be in your room as much as you wish.
After giving birth you will learn various types of baby care including:
- Bathing your baby
- Cord care
- Circumcision care
- Newborn characteristics
Your doctor will also stop by to see you and give your baby his/her first exam. Another doctor exam is required before you and your baby are discharged. There will also be some essential paperwork to do before you go home, including educational needs assessment, birth certificates, discharge instructions, etc.
