Hospital Visitor Restrictions

To protect our patients, families and health care workers during the global outbreak of COVID-19 the following visitor restrictions have been implemented, until the transmission of COVID-19 is no longer a threat to community.

No visitors will be admitted unless critically essential for the patient's well-being. Approved visitors must be screened. Screening station is near Java City. Please note in all cases a visitor will only be allowed if they do not have symptoms of respiratory infection (fever, runny nose, cough, shortness of breath). Additionally, children under the age of 18 will not be allowed except under extraordinary circumstances.

Exceptions include:

  • Obstetric patients may have one partner or birth support person accompany them.
  • Nursery may have one birth parent plus one significant other who must remain in the room for the duration of the visit.
  • Exceptions will be made for patients who are end-of-life at the discretion of patient's health care team.
  • Patients with disruptive behavior, where a family member is key to their care, may have one visitor.
  • Patients who have altered mental status or developmental delays, where caregiver provides safety, may have one visitor.
  • Minors under the age of 18 may have one visitor, parent, or guardian.
  • Patients undergoing surgery or procedures may have one visitor who must leave the hospital as soon as possible after the procedure/surgery.
  • Patients who have an appointment at a hospital-based clinic, laboratory, or radiology, as well as those visiting the Emergency Room (ER), may have one person with them.

Visitors allowed must stay in the patient's room the entire time of the visit. Once the visitor leaves the patient room, they must leave the hospital. Please note that visitors will not be allowed for patients with a pending or positive COVID-19 test.

We understand these visitor restrictions may be difficult. While we are committed to providing a family-centered care environment, restricting visitors at this time is in the best interest of our patients, team members and the community. Thank you for your cooperation in this effort!

Restricted Visitor Entrances

Entrance C is closed at this time. Please enter using the Main Entrance or Entrance B.

Limited Valet Services

Until further notice our Valet team will not park patient or visitor cars. However, we will continue to provide wheelchair assistance when needed. This is to protect our visitors and Valet team from possible contact, as well as transmitting, the COVID-19 virus from one vehicle to another, and each other. Patients may be dropped off at the Main Entrance or Entrance B, someone will be there to greet and provide a wheelchair if needed.

Procedures, Surgeries and Non-Essential Services

UnityPoint Health providers and leaders in Iowa have been diligently working on identifying specific criteria to resume elective procedures. UnityPoint Health – Fort Dodge does not yet have a definitive timeline to share, however we continue to develop operational plans to resume elective procedures that prioritize the health and safety of our team members, patients and communities. As we plan, we are also making considerations around conservation of supplies, testing and PPE.

Patients whose procedures or appointments that were cancelled because of COVID-19, can expect a phone call from their provider's office regarding their care when there is scheduling availability. Some patients will be expected to be tested for COVID-19 48 hours prior to their procedure and remain quarantined up to the time the service is provided. Current visitor restrictions will remain in effect as this change occurs.
