UnityPoint Health – Trinity Regional Medical Center announced a partnership with credentialed pain management specialists which will enable them to provide local, highly individualized treatment to patients with chronic pain.

Trinity Regional Medical Center notified patients this past April that Des Moines Anesthesia would no longer be providing services at UnityPoint Health - Trinity Pain Management Center.

“Our anesthesia care model, which also supported Trinity Pain Management Center, was developed back when open heart surgeries were being performed at Trinity,” shares Leah Glasgo, President and CEO, UnityPoint Health – Fort Dodge. “Unfortunately, the model did not evolve when those services went away. In result, last year Trinity was operating at a negative $1.7 million for anesthesia and pain management services. We knew if we were going to continue to provide local, high quality pain management services, we needed to make transformational and sustainable changes to the care model.”

After careful consideration of numerous care models and evaluating the types of services needed by the community, UnityPoint Health chose a care model built on reputable Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs): Chris Hanson, CRNA, ARNP, NSPM-C; Brian Jacobs CRNA, ARNP, NSPM-C; and Damium Bassandeh CRNA, ARNP, NSPM-C. These providers are also certified in Nonsurgical Pain Management (NSPM-C), with extensive training and expertise in pain management. They are known for being innovative in the field and their holistic approach which often includes: physical and occupational therapy, chiropractic care, pain medication management; as well as, evaluating how the body and mind contribute to pain. Additionally, all pain management services are in collaboration with patients’ primary care providers.

“We are extremely excited to be partnering with Chris, Brian and Damium. These providers are innovative and passionate about working with their patients to build treatment plans that ensure the best outcomes,” says Troy Martens, COO of UnityPoint Health – Trinity Regional Medical Center.

Hanson, Jacobs and Bassandeh will begin rotating at Trinity Pain Management Center starting May 13, 2019. Clinic hours will be based on provider coverage; however, the pain center will be open a minimum of three days a week.

Trinity’s CRNAs will also continue to support Trinity Anesthesia Services and are actively in the process of acquiring additional certification to support the Pain Center.
