UnityPoint at Home Receives Top Rating for Quality of Care from Centers for Medicare and Medicaid

The Fort Dodge and Storm Lake agencies agency of UnityPoint at Home has been awarded five stars in the latest Home Health Compare ratings from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

The rating is the highest awarded in the five-star rating system from CMS for quality of care. Currently no other home care agencies in the state of Iowa hold this rating.

The CMS rating system offers the most comprehensive overview of home health care quality in the United States and was created to help patients, their families and caregivers compare home health care agencies more easily. CMS ratings can be found at medicare.gov/homehealthcompare.

The quality measures used to create the ratings provide a look at how well each home health care agency performs on nine process and outcome quality measures. The selected measures indicate how well an agency assists their patients in regaining or maintaining important functional abilities and how frequently it adheres to evidence-based processes of care.

Home health care agencies that earn five stars are considered to be much above average quality, since agencies are from lowest to highest nationally. Across the country, most agencies fall “in the middle” with three or three and a half stars being the average rating.

“Achieving a five-star quality rating from CMS is a testament to our team’s efforts to design and implement a personalized plan of care that addresses the specific needs and goals of every individual,” said Mag VanOosten, RN, UnityPoint at Home Chief Clinical Officer.  “Our exceptional quality of care and patient safety measures are the result each team member’s dedication to training, communication and delivering the best possible outcomes for our patients.”
