Alumni

School of Nursing Alumni

The Finley Hospital School of Nursing (FHSN) was established in 1896 and was one of the first six nursing schools in the state. It provided a three-year course of study and remained that way until May 1987, when it graduated its last nursing class.

Founded in 1913, the Finley Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association honors the traditions, history, accomplishments and legacy of the FHSN, which educated outstanding nurses for 90 years. Its mission is to preserve the School of Nursing's history, provide support for the education of nurses and advance the mission of UnityPoint Health Finley Hospital.

FHSN alumni have touched countless numbers of lives and saved many others. As hospital staff and managers, members of the military, missionaries, parents and members of their respective communities, their contributions to society are a living testament to the quality of education they received at the School of Nursing.

Each year, FHSN alumni gather for social and educational events to share professional experiences, reminisce on their School of Nursing days and advance the cause of quality nursing education for the nurses of the future.

Alumni Exhibit

The hallway adjacent to the Medical Library at Finley Hospital is dedicated to the School of Nursing. Maintained by the Alumni Association, this permanent exhibit of photographs, historical items, uniforms and other memorabilia is available for public viewing.

Through the efforts of the Alumni Association, FHSN's mission to prepare women and men for the most noble and giving of professions lives on.

Scholarship Program

Scholarship Background

In 2001, The Finley Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association began awarding scholarships to individuals pursuing nursing careers. Scholarship candidates must be graduating high school seniors with plans to pursue a nursing career, currently enrolled in a nursing program, or a Finley employee seeking a nursing career. Students must attend an accredited nursing school and pursue an ADN, BSN, MSN, or nurse practitioner degree. Recipients are selected each year based on the completion of an application and an essay.

Make a Donation to the Scholarship Fund

One of the purposes of the FHSN Alumni Association is to further nursing education and to offer financial assistance to local students. Alumni are encouraged to add a donation to the Scholarship Fund when submitting their annual dues. In addition, memorial gifts or estate gifts to the Scholarship Fund are appreciated. By giving to the fund, we are able to help future nurses achieve their educational goals.

Another giving option is through the Finley Hospital School of Nursing Legacy Society.

Legacy Society

The Finley Hospital School of Nursing Legacy Society has been established to provide the Finley Health Foundation a way to recognize thoughtful individuals who have made provision for a gift to either the alumni association or the Finley Hospital through their estate. There is no minimum level of gift as a qualification for membership. Any FHSN alumni member who indicates in writing that the FHSN Alumni Association or the Finley Health Foundation is in her/his estate plan is eligible to be recognized as a member of the FHSN Legacy Society.

There are many ways to make a bequest and designate the use of the gift. The more the FHSN Alumni Association and Finley understand your intent, the better stewards they can be for the funds you wish to contribute. Please be assured that 100 percent of your gift will be used in the manner you designate.
