Chemical Dependency

Chemical dependency is a treatable illness, and alcohol and substance abuse produce harmful effects for women.

Moderate and heavy alcohol consumption while pregnant can be very dangerous for the baby. It can lead to long-term birth defects that affect how the baby will look at develop, such as fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS).

More than four million women in the United States use illegal drugs. In the past year, nearly four million women in the United States misuse prescription drugs. The age at which girls begin experimenting with these substances continues to get younger and younger.

We know sensitive issues surround the use of alcohol and chemicals, but we're here to help. Treatment can begin at Powell Chemical Dependency Center (CDC) at Iowa Lutheran Hospital (515) 263-2424.
