Founders of Rally Against Cancer
When Kim Johnson's mother, Helen, was diagnosed with Stage 4 endometrial cancer she was the picture of health. Until that moment, cancer was just a disease that affected others. When you come face to face with cancer, it takes on new meaning.
Kim's family quickly mobilized - "Team Hampton" - to help their mom battle the disease. There is nothing more important than teamwork - especially when you're in the fight for your life. They researched every aspect of the disease and contacted every major cancer center in the United States to make sure Helen was getting the best treatment possible. They soon discovered that John Stoddard Cancer Center had everything they needed, and it was close to home. Great doctors, state of the art equipment and facilities, and nurses and staff who are professional and compassionate, make the John Stoddard Cancer Center that great team.
Team Stoddard quickly became an integral part of Team Hampton's lives during Helen's two year battle with cancer. Even though Helen lost her fight, Kim's family knew they could help others. They approached Iowa Methodist Medical Center about establishing an event to benefit the patients and families of the John Stoddard Cancer Center - the Rally Against Cancer.
With the Rally Against Cancer, it is our hope that anyone else facing this diagnosis has the same great team behind them.
