Mandy W.

Mandy W.

Children and Adolescent

Mandy oversees utilization review for our Adult Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and our Pediatric Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP). Prior to entering the mental health industry, Mandy spent 14 years in the commercial insurance industry and graduated from the University of Northern Iowa in 2002 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration Management. Mandy started her career with UnityPoint Health in January of 2014 as a temporary receptionist for Powell Chemical Dependency Center until later that summer when Counseling and Psychiatry opened a satellite office in Iowa Lutheran Hospital. Mandy was more than the receptionist; she was someone the patients looked forward to seeing when arriving in the office and hearing her voice on the other end of the phone. One of Mandy's greatest strengths is her compassion towards patients; she is patient, empathetic and always willing to listen.

Teresa H.

Teresa H..

Children and Adolescent

Teresa is the department secretary for our Adult Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and our Pediatric Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP). Teresa started her career with UnityPoint Health in 2006 at Blank Children's Health Center. After that, she worked as a representative in our central billing office in Johnston. Teresa has returned to the UnityPoint Health family after taking time off to be a stay-at-home mom and running a home bakery for 5 years. She has a strong passion for mental health and has found her home here in with this team. Outside of work she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, being outdoors, traveling and shopping.

Behavioral Health Counselors

Dan W.

Dan W.

Adolescent

Dan (He, Him, His) is a behavioral health counselor working in the Pediatric Partial Hospitalization Program. Before that, he worked in the Acute Care Inpatient Program at Iowa Lutheran starting in 2012. He also worked as a milieu treatment counselor at Orchard Place residential campus starting in 2007. He began his career in behavior intervention as a counselor at a youth emergency shelter in northwest Iowa in 2005. Before that, Dan had spent the first decade and a half of his adult life in the blue-collar sector developing a strong midwestern work ethic in the food and transportation industries.

Dan earned an associate degree in sociology from Western Iowa Technical Community College in 2007 before finishing his bachelor's degree in sociology with a minor in psychology from Iowa State University in 2009. Dan was inspired to study human behavior after a lifetime of personal struggles of his own. He uses his own experiences as inspiration to try to help his patients and brings a passion to his teaching for which he makes no apologies. He does not lose sight of the need for humor to temper that passion. He likes to tell his patients and their families that he is like "that teacher that stands in front of class and tells horrible jokes and thinks he's funny, but he really isn't." The only difference is that Dan realizes his jokes aren't funny; he tells them anyway!

She started her career at Orchard Place as an intern in 2008 and became a milieu treatment counselor in 2009 and has been working with at-risk youth ever since. She enjoys working with teens and their families, helping them be the best they can be.
