Meet the Adult Outpatient Team
Lynley, LISW, is the manager for our Adult Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and our Pediatric Partial Hospitalization Program. She has been with UnityPoint Health since 2013. She graduated with her Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Iowa and her Master of Social Work from the University of Northern Iowa. She started as a medical social worker and transitioned to a leadership position in 2017. She was honored to join this team in 2021 and has loved every minute of it. Lynley enjoys seeing patients reach their full potential and has a passion for staff education.
Tina is the supervisor for our Adult Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and our Pediatric Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP). Prior to being a supervisor, she was the care manager for the IOP for 20 years and started her career at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in 1997 as the behavioral health counselor for the IOP. Tina is working on a Master of Healthcare Administration through the University of Iowa and has a bachelor's degree from the University of Northern Iowa with a minor in psychology. Her training and certifications include Breakthrough to Leadership, Managing Aggressive Behavior and intensive psychiatric rehabilitation practitioner.
She is married with 3 children and enjoys being outdoors, walking, biking, going to Iowa/Iowa State Football games and spending time with family and friends.
Mandy oversees utilization review for our Adult Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and our Pediatric Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP). Prior to entering the mental health industry, Mandy spent 14 years in the commercial insurance industry and graduated from the University of Northern Iowa in 2002 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration Management. Mandy started her career with UnityPoint Health in January of 2014 as a temporary receptionist for Powell Chemical Dependency Center until later that summer when Counseling and Psychiatry opened a satellite office in Iowa Lutheran Hospital. Mandy was more than the receptionist; she was someone the patients looked forward to seeing when arriving in the office and hearing her voice on the other end of the phone. One of Mandy's greatest strengths is her compassion towards patients; she is patient, empathetic and always willing to listen.
Teresa is the department secretary for our Adult Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and our Pediatric Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP). Teresa started her career with UnityPoint Health in 2006 at Blank Children's Health Center. After that, she worked as a representative in our central billing office in Johnston. Teresa has returned to the UnityPoint Health family after taking time off to be a stay-at-home mom and running a home bakery for 5 years. She has a strong passion for mental health and has found her home here in with this team. Outside of work she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, being outdoors, traveling and shopping.
Behavioral Health Counselors
Deb is a behavioral health counselor and certified therapeutic recreation specialist and brings years of experience to the intensive outpatient program team. Deb is a graduate of the University of Iowa. Prior to Iowa Lutheran Hospital, she worked at the Mental Health Institute in Independence, Allen Hospital in Waterloo and Broadlawns here in Des Moines. Deb facilitates groups, helping patients develop practical behavioral skills for greater emotional well-being and a healthier work/life balance.
Colten is a licensed mental health counselor. He graduated from Central College with a bachelor's degree in psychology. He obtained his master's degree in mental health and rehabilitation counseling from the University of Iowa. Prior to joining this team, Colten provided group and individual therapy in an inpatient hospital setting. Colten's therapeutic approach uses components of cognitive-behavioral, solution-focused and person-centered therapy. He strives to support and empower individuals on their journey to identify and implement positive changes.
Mark is a licensed independent social worker. Mark received a bachelor's degree in psychology from Central College in Pella, IA, and a Master of Social Work from the University of Iowa. He has provided clinical assessment, consultation and individual and group therapy services for almost 25 years. Mark provides an individualized, strengths-based, collaborative, treatment approach. Treatment modalities Mark most often uses are cognitive-behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy and motivational interviewing.
Mary is a registered nurse who recently started working in the intensive outpatient program. She has worked at UnityPoint Health for 25 years in mental health in the inpatient setting, the last 10 years in electroconvulsive therapy prior to coming to IOP. She graduated from Iowa Methodist School of Nursing and completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Coe College. Before she worked in mental health, she worked in a variety of inpatient and outpatient settings and found that mental health is her passion. She thoroughly enjoys the setting in IOP and her team of co-workers.
Brandi is a registered nurse that joined the team in October of 2020 with 20 years of mental health experience. She started her nursing journey on the adult mental health inpatient unit here at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in 2000, floating to all 4 of the adult units with her home base being the geriatrics unit. In the last 15 years, Brandi has been the main electroconvulsive therapy nurse while also continuing to maintain her status on the inpatient unit. She maintains all of the medical certifications required for that role such as Cardiac Rhythm Abnormality recognition and ACLS certification to remain PRN in the inpatient and outpatient areas. Brandi also worked as a registered nurse at the UnityPoint Clinic — Behavioral Health Urgent Care for its first 4 months as it was piloted. It was there that her passion for mental health grew while getting to experience and interact with the outpatient mental health population. This led her to pursue her current position in the intensive outpatient program. She strives to use a creative approach to looking at the whole patient picture to give patients all of the nursing education and support needed to make positive changes. She teaches her patient safe coping skills to assist them through crisis and improve daily emotional well-being and happiness.
Brandi is married and has a daughter and a son. When she's not working, she enjoys being outdoors, vacationing and spending quality time with family and friends when possible.
Barbara is a PRN registered nurse on our team. She has had a long and varied career in health care since the early 1970's. In 1988, Barbara returned to Des Moines and began working at Iowa Lutheran Hospital as a psychiatric nurse. Over the years, she has had a variety of nursing rolls in the behavioral health department at UnityPoint Health. Since 2001, she has worked in the Adult Intensive Outpatient Program, helping people find opportunities to transition from distress to healing. Barbara's special interests include the implementation of mindfulness meditation and the science to support this practice in this healing process. Her education includes Des Moines Area Community College operating room technician program in 1972; Linn-Benton Community College in Albany, Oregon, associate degree in Nursing in 1981; and Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa, landscape architecture in 2001, Bachelor of Science. Barbara says for her, nursing has always been an exploration of healing of the spirit and the enrichment of the human condition.
Dorothy is a PRN register nurse who works in the Adult Intensive Outpatient Program. She has been with UnityPoint Health since 1986, having worked in adult inpatient, gero psych, home health and the mental health access center. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Iowa and has taught in two nursing education programs including Iowa Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing and Mercy College.
