Just Drive | Safe Driving Habits With UnityPoint Health - Des Moines

Just Drive Pledge

What does it mean to Just Drive?  It means:

  • You focus on driving.
  • You do not text while driving.
  • You do not email while driving.
  • You do not allow distractions to affect your driving.
  • You use a hands-free device when talking on the phone in your car.

Why is the Just Drive Pledge so important?

We have all seen the impact distracted driving can have on loved ones. Often, the end result of distracted driving is serious injury and death. By just driving, you are keeping yourself, and others on the road, at a lower risk for crashes.

Distracted Driving is an Epidemic

Trauma Services at UnityPoint Health - Des Moines, along with the National Safety Council and American Trauma Surgeons, recognizes distracted driving as a national epidemic. Driving while texting was the cause of more than 200,000 motor vehicle crashes and 6,000 deaths in the U.S. in 2008.  At UnityPoint Health - Des Moines, we treated nearly 1,000 victims of motor vehicle crashes in 2008 and 2009.
