UnityPoint Health - John Stoddard Cancer Center

Social Worker: Dwight Deason, MSW, LISW, OSW-C

Dwight has been part of the Iowa Methodist Medical Center team for more than 20 years. Dwight has spent the majority of those years in oncology services, working with both inpatient and outpatient settings. Dwight helped develop the first support group at John Stoddard Cancer Center, which was a support group for blood cancer patients. In his current role, Dwight helps facilitate the UsTOO Prostate Cancer Support Group, Lung Cancer multi-disciplinary team conference, Blood Cancer Support Group, as well as provide general social service needs at John Stoddard including; distress screening.

" I am excited to be part of the Stoddard team full time, in the outpatient arena. I am able to meet with patients much earlier in the cancer journey and help them any way I can with a variety of needs. Although I have known the team for a long time, our working relationship is much closer, and I feel more productive in meeting the needs of the patients. And that is the most important function of our role here at Stoddard."
