2017 Donor Journal

"Know how much you matter to this world."

This promise speaks to more than just the patients and families we serve each and every day.  It speaks to our incredible donors. The power of philanthropy is extraordinary, and your support of the UnityPoint Health – Des Moines Foundation in 2017 had an enormous impact on the level of care we provide our patients and families.

People are amazing – we're here to keep them that way. While our extraordinary team of doctors, nurses, therapists, and many others provide the highest level of health care to make sure our patients remain the best they can be, your philanthropic support directly impacts that level of care, the advanced technology and the support services our patients and families receive from our caregivers.
You came together with your philanthropic dollars, united in a common goal of helping patients and families, and you made a huge difference in our community.

The impact of your gifts is extraordinary. Thanks to all of you, UnityPoint Health – Des Moines

  • Has a medical community of care providers who have dedicated their lives to help others in their greatest times of need. They work together to provide the best outcomes for patients.
  • Serves the greater Des Moines community and the entire state of Iowa by offering advanced technology, specialty programs and support services for patients and families.
  • Works cooperatively with our donor community to support patients and families through the medical programs and support services that make a difference in the quality of life for our community.
  • Supports families and friends who rally for loved ones going through medical treatment at our hospitals and related entities.

As the leadership of the Foundation, we are proud to report that you – our donors and families – matter to our community.  Together you made an incredible impact on our hospitals and hospice. The results speak for themselves: a record number of donors, 7,464, generously made gifts totaling $8.5 million to the Foundation in 2017.  In addition, we provided more than $9.3 million in funding for programs and services that benefited hundreds of thousands of people last year.

Some of these programs and services included: Blank Children's Child Life Program, the Oncology Navigator Program at John Stoddard Cancer Center, the William C. Knapp Emergency Department – Trauma Center at Iowa Methodist and Blank Children's, the Transplant

Program at Iowa Methodist, the Powell Chemical Dependency Program at Iowa Lutheran, the Compassion Fund and the Patient & Family Services Fund at Methodist West, the Legacies & Last Wishes Program at Taylor House Hospice, and the Employee Crisis Fund at UnityPoint Health – Des Moines.

We are also proud to say that 100% of your gifts benefit the programs and services you choose to support. The UnityPoint Health – Des Moines family would not be what it is today without the generosity and compassion of people like you.

Please accept our deepest appreciation for your very generous support last year.  Know how much you matter to not only this world, but to our patients, families and indeed, our entire community.
