Case 13 - Ellie, 4 Months Old

Elle is a 4 month old admitted in March with severe respiratory distress. Parents noted cough and nasal discharge 5 days PTA, then wheezing and fever.

She was in respiratory distress requiring PICU admission. T=38.9 R = 50 Lung exam with wheezes. CXR with interstitial infiltrates.

Questions

1) What isolation precautions are indicated and why?

What is the appropriate duration for use of isolation precautions?  Can isolation be pathogen focused if a specific diagnosis is established?
