Obesity and increased central fat increases the risk of developing diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, stroke, sleep apnea, osteoarthritis and certain types of cancers.

Lifestyle changes, such as new eating habits and increased physical activity will help you lose weight and maintain your weight loss over time.   Dr. Rao of UnityPoint Clinic Diabetes and Kidney Center  and the Health Promotion team work together to  offer a variety of weight loss programs to help individuals reach their health goals.  Services include the Medical Weight Loss Clinic, Meal Replacement Program, nutrition counseling and more.

Programs include:

  • Medical Weight Loss Clinic- Dr. Rao evaluates and treats individuals struggling with weight related issues and provides care during and after weight loss.
  • Meal Replacement Program- This medically-supervised program provides safe and effective weight loss with an emphasis on lifestyle changes, not dieting, to help you lose weight.
  • Nutrition Counseling-  Our registered, licensed dietitians are available to meet with you individually. Our dietitians will help you develop a customized food plan to help you achieve your weight loss goals.
  • Next Steps Program- This program provides ongoing support for anyone who has successful completed a weight loss program offered by UnityPoint Health. The program's weekly, topic-focused support sessions, exercise classes and continued accountability helps individuals achieve long-term weight loss.
